Unter dem Archon Kleomachos (255/4); die Akamanis hatte die siebte Prytanie inne, für dieAphthonetos S.d. Archinos aus dem Demos KettosVI Sekretär war; im Gamelion am - - -- - -; von den Vorsitzenden leitete die Abstimmung Archilochos S.d. Archenikos aus dem Demos - - -und seine Mitvorsitzenden. Beschluß von Rat und Volk; - - - S.d.- - - aus dem Demos Kydathenaion stellte den Antrag: Dabereits früher die Vorfahren des Charias stets ehrgeizig warenfür den Rat und das Volk der Athener,und Charias selbst alle Aufgaben, für die das Volk ihneinsetzte, erfüllt hat in ehrgeiziger Weise, unddurch Handheben gewählt zum Festspielleiter für das Jahr desArchons Antimachos (256/5), er alle Opfer geopfert hat, die ihmzukamen - - - dem Dionysos fünf Ochsen- - - den Athenern und den hier sich aufhaltendenAitoler, und er alle Festpiele veranstaltet hat in guter undehrgeiziger Weise; er auch die Dreifüße geweiht hat und die- - -; er auch gegeben hat- - - auch Sorge getragen hat, damit alle erhalten- - - das Amt des Festspielleiters aus eigenenMitteln - - - Talente; und als eine Sonderumlagestattfand für den Schutz des Umlandes, er gespendet hat- - - und für seine Verwaltung Rechnung und Rechenschaftabgelegt hat; – Damit nun auch unter den anderen, die inkünftiger Zeit Wohltaten leisten, ein Wettstreit sei, Ehrgeizzu zeigen, in dem Wissen, dass sie seitens des Volkes angemessenenDank erhalten werden, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen der Rat: dassdie Vorsitzenden, die erlost sein werden zum Vorsitz in der nächstenVolksversammlung, hierüber verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlagedes Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es für gutbefindet, dass man belobige Charias S.d. Euthykrates aus dem Demos Kydathenaion undihn bekränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß dem Gesetz wegen seinerLeistung und seines Ehrgeizes - - -- - -- - -

The People decided. - - -son of - - - of Kydathenaion proposed: sincepreviously the ancestors of Charias continued to show love ofhonour for the Council and Athenian People,and Charias himself in as many posts as the Peopleappointed him to has performed his liturgies with love of honour, andwhen elected competition director for the year of thearchonship of Antimachos he both performed all the sacrificesthat fell to him - - - five bulls at the Dionysia- - - for the Athenians and Aitolians who were visitingand put on all the competitons well andwith love of honour; and he dedicated the tripods, both the ones- - - 〚- - - erased - - -〛 and gave- - - he managed so that all might take- - - the competition directorship from his own resources- - - talents; and when the public subscriptionfor the protection of the countryside took place he contributed- - - and submitted a reckoning and accountsfor his management; in order therefore that there may be incentive for all others[in the future who are benefactors] knowing that for their love ofhonour they will receive from the People worthythanks, for good fortune, the Council shall decide: that thepresiding committee allotted to preside in the nextAssembly shall put the matter on the agenda and submit the opinionof the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Councilto praise Charias son of Euthykrates of Kydathenaion andcrown him with a gold crown according to the law for[his excellence and] love of honour - - -- - -- - -
